League Rules:

  • Follow NMJL rules

  • Any rule disputes will be reviewed on-site by the league leader

  • No blanks or extra jokers

Membership Includes:

  • Online scoring, leaderboard, and resources

Attendance & Scoring:
Attendance at every session is not required to be part of the league! While attending more sessions can boost your total points, this league is designed to be flexible — perfect for a social, come-as-you-are experience.

Your final season score is based on your top 5 out of 6 session scores — we drop your lowest one.

Additional information on scoring, the leaderboard, and more will be shared ahead of league kickoff. Don't worry about tracking your own score — we've got scorekeeping assistance covered for you!

READY FOR LEAGUE?

Many players in Bloomington and surrounding areas are newer to American Mahjong and our league is designed with that in mind: players who are ready to build confidence through regular play.

You do not need to be fast or experienced. You do need to be comfortable playing a complete game with minimal guidance.

League is a good fit for you if…

  • You have taken a beginner series (or have the equivalent experience)

  • You can set up the tiles, complete the Charleston, and play a game from beginning to end

  • You know how to determine who East is and understand the flow of play

  • You own a 2026 NMJL card and know how to read it.

  • You are comfortable asking questions between hands, but don’t need step-by-step coaching during your turn.

  • You are excited to improve, meet new people, and have fun!

  • You don’t mind making mistakes; we all do!

  • Are an experienced player, but have the patience to play with newer players in our community (note: this is a league, not a tournament).

League isn’t about playing perfectly.

It’s about playing consistently! If you have ever thought, “I just wish I had more people to play with,” you are probably a perfect fit.
